I received a note for my good friend Karen Pickens, a trainer for Next Level Training and knew some of the members of The Recruiting Network forum would like to know about this event. I think it is one of the premier training events available and they are giving away a great article on recruiting.
She said "I want to…

Miles Jennings from Talentbar says:
1. Linkedin, Facebook, mySpace, JigSaw, Zoominfo are making people easier to find.
2. That changes the recruiter's function from sourcing to selling candidates on jobs and assessing them for the client
3. To perform these tasks well, a recruiter has to understand the business she is working in better than ever before.…

I'm a fan of the
neo-necon. She's a psychotherapist who was raised as Democrat but swung to the centre-right. So, she's not voting for Obama.
The other day, she analyzed his body posture. I initially said that her comments were the product of pure bias but she challenged my opinion so I had a second look and think that it might be of interest to us as recruiters.
What’s up wi…

I ran across an article that was written a while ago but it caught my attention nonetheless. The article was titled “The Dirty Dozen Dangerous Online Job Search Assumptions” and it can be found on job-hunt.org. It is riddled with comments about the job boards’ inability to ensure that the companies that advertise thru them are real or that the job positions for that matter are real.
The article went on to recommend the use of an identity suppressed or cyber-safe resume. As I was reflecting on t…

I read this neat article on MSN titled
"15 ways stores trick you into spending". I just wanted to share a few of the highlights of the tricks they listed. Some of them are obvious but their all interesting. One of these tricks was that the desirable departments are placed far away from the entrance. Another one of the tricks mentioned was that impulse-oriented items are placed n…

The more I think about it the more I come to the conclusion that we need to return to the basics. I was involved in a discussion today about the need for recruiters to learn to create better job postings. There is still a lot of what we used to call spaghetti recruiting out there. For those of you not old enough to have heard that expression spaghetti recruiting is the methodology of throwing enough resumes at a hiring manager thinking one of them simply has got to stick!
As I thought about job…

When you ask a group of recruiters about which search engine they prefer you are likely to get many and diverse response starting from AltaVista, Google, Yahoo, live, etc… You also might hear people say "I used to prefer (fill in the name,)" but changed to yahoo or Google or live because it was better. And the one thing that you will soon realize is that everyone’s definition of better varies as well. Since search engines are free and user can go from one search engine to another search engines…

Before you begin searching
No doubt, you are already used to doing keyword searches on the Internet. The thing you need to know about keywords in order to use them effectively on a search is that you have to match them to the keywords that would be found in the candidates web page, bio, profile or resume. Plain keywords may be the simplest form of searching but they are also the core of the search itself.
Keywords are not either seen or read by the search engine in the same way that we…
