Although Earth Day has already passed, taking care of our planet is still a top concern for many. Aside from recycling, saving energy and trying not to pollute the ozone layer with harmful chemicals, some environmentally conscious individuals are now interested in finding green
jobs. And they’re in luck, according to a recent press release from CareerBuilder.com.
By asking more than 2,5000 hiring managers and HR professionals, Careerbuilder found that these positions are growing. Through the survey, the
career search giant found that one out of ever ten
employers added green jobs in the last months. Participants responded between February 20th and March 11th.
"Green jobs have increased in popularity over the last few years as companies take continued action to become more environmentally conscious and reduce their carbon footprints," said CareerBuilder’s vice president of human resources Rosemary Haefner in the press release. "The economic stimulus plan is expected to spur an increase in the number of green jobs by creating investments in alternative energies. There are a variety of positions that fall under the green category that could present great new career opportunities for job seekers."
Other than creating new environmentally friendly positions, CareerBuilder found that many office places are now taking steps to make their offices more green. Of those who participated in the survey, 50 percent said that their companies recycle. Another 45 percent make efforts to save the trees by using less paper. Twenty-seven percent said that their offices purchase supplies made from recycled materials.
Aside from things related to recycling, CareerBuilder found that many offices are concerned about
saving energy, which is both good for the environment and these companies’ utility bills. Of those polled, 44 percent responded that they do what they can to control their lighting. Another 30 percent said that they power down their computers at the end of the day, a practice that reduces the amount of energy spent when no one is even there to benefit from it.
